Ruby and Stan Rogers opened this special Valentine's meeting. Stan blessed us with a trio of songs; what a magnificent voice! Then Ruby shared a meaningful "Thought For the Day", including the poem, I believe in Children.
Remembering Our Own
Henny Schuster
--Henny brought history to life. Her portrayals of local historic women are famous in the region. Janice Connett --A woman of wisdom, friends remembered that she taught some of the most difficult, challenging secondary students with grace and dedication. Jane Moore --Jane had a generosity of spirit that was evident in her treatment of others. She was the ultimate Southern Belle. |
Teresa Hagy led our service of remembrance to honor the five members who have died during the last year. After sharing memories, a rose was placed in a vase of baby's breath for each of the members.
Various members' recollections are summarized here. ______________________ June Roberts --She always said when asked the expected length of an English paper she'd assigned, that it should be like a girl's skirt: long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to be interesting. May Joe Craig --Her joy at bringing the Duncansville one-room schoolhouse to Abingdon was contagious. She could be found often leading school groups through the school. One student even asked if she had known George Washington, whose picture hangs in the school. |
