Happy Valentine's, Alpha Zeta!!
February 2, 2019--at Pleasant View United Methodist Church in Abingdon.
We were all so happy to see one another, after December's snowstorm forced the cancellation of our last scheduled get-together.
Since our lunch would be soups, prepared by various members, the cost was simply enough to cover the paper products and desserts. Here are Linda S and Maureen M signing in.
Thought for the Day...
Sandra J shared a story about the influence we have on others, even though we may be unaware of it. She stressed that we should always act to the best of our ability, knowing that we might be making a difference in someone's life.
Program:
Abuse Alternatives, Inc.
Domestic Violence Intervention Services
Did you know that February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month?
Chad M and Heather P (intern) set up for the presentation.
Chad M talked to us about the mission of Abuse Alternatives, Inc. This organization has been providing assistance to people in abusive relationships since 1980. It serves Washington County, VA, Bristol, VA, Sullivan County, TN, and Bluff City, TN.
Alpha Zeta has been supporting Abuse Alternatives, Inc. for several years. This year, we collected gift cards in small denominations which can provide a fleeing family help in buying such items as food, gas, or prescription drugs.
Kathy explains the game. Everyone has two pieces of candy. When she asks a yes/no question, you pass a piece to the right if the answer is yes, and to the left if the answer is no. The one with the most candy at the end is the winner.
Below: The winners!! Shirley S, Joan A, and Beegie R.
Final photo: Oops! A candy calamity!

The business meeting...
Our wonderful president, Kathy M, calls the business part of the meeting to order.
**Kathy talked about Legislative Day (late January) and encouraged more to participate next year.
**She described our upcoming joint meeting with Chi Chapter on April 6, in Marion. (Taco bar, baked potato bar...mmm, sounds yummy!)
**She said that our own Teresa H will represent us with her musical talent at the Iota State conference in late April. Go, Teresa!
Janice T passed out scholarship applications and reminded everyone that those completed applications need to be returned to her by March 25.
Remember, if you know a female college or graduate student who is preparing to become a teacher or professor, is from Washington County, VA, Bristol City, or Scott County, VA, ask her to fill out an application!
Applications can be found on this site on our Helpful LInks page. Just click, print, and pass it on.
