Wilkommen, Alpha Zeta!
Our March meeting was at the delightful
Gasthaus Edelweiss in Weber City, VA.
Hostesses Linda S and Joan A greeted everyone with smiles.
Linda S' Thought for the Day was about the importance of always telling others what they mean to you. That simple act can really make a difference in someone's day or life.
President Kathy M loves to get us moving with some games. Today's game was Truth or Lie. Volunteers got up, told two facts about their lives--of which one was a lie--and we all tried to guess which was which. There was a lot of laughter!
Program: Barter Theatre's Project REAL with Megan A. Hamilton
Megan, who created Project REAL, has been working with the schools since 2011. She and her colleagues incorporate activities that actors use to help students learn in a different way. No matter what the subject (Science, Math, Chorus, History, Foreign Language, etc.) Megan's in-class activities help students better understand and master the subject matter.
To teach Alpha Zeta about how some of the most long-term learning occurs, Megan had small groups discuss a memory we had of a moment when we learned a lot. There were memories of finding courage and many recalled times filled with emotion. As Megan pointed out, all of the memories involved us being active. In fact, no one recalled a time when significant learning occurred while listening to a lecture or reading a book.
On to the Business Meeting:
Our wonderful recording secretary, Shirley S, and our ever precise treasurer, Judy Y, gave their respective reports.
Carol P read a thank-you note from Abuse Alternatives.

Thanks to the Scholarship Committee for putting together FOUR food-themed bags to be raffled. We raised nearly $100 to go toward our annual scholarship. Alpha Zeta loves to cook!!
