Our May, 2016 meeting, at JJ's Restaurant and Sports Bar in Abingdon, was our annual birthday celebration!!
Our special guest was Vicki Newburn, Iota State's First Vice-President. We felt so honored by her presence; what a delightful addition to our meeting.
Hostesses, Shirley S and Heidi M, met everyone at the door with beautiful smiles.
Since our departing president, Maureen M, was unable to attend the meeting, Sara E, who would soon be installed as our new president, presided. She said that Maureen had not missed a meeting in two years, so she hadn't had any practice. We all thought Sara did a terrific job!
Honoring our members:
Mary Sue's "Thought for the Day", was a reflection on the past year and the month of May. She remembered our dear Brenda Bingham, whom we lost this year, and our fun activities of this past year, but also talked about the busy month of May. She taught us that brides of medieval Europe often chose to walk down the aisle in June because they had had their yearly bath in May! She played the song,"The Lusty Month of May", from the Broadway production of Camelot, before wishing us all a summer of beautiful days until we meet again in the fall.

After accepting the minutes from Linda S, and hearing Judy Y's treasurer's report, Sandra J made a special presentation. She presented Judy with Brenda Bingham's treasurer's pin, which Brenda's family had sent to Alpha Zeta. We are all happy that Judy has been able to take on the position as treasurer with grace and meticulousness, both of which we had in Brenda.

Installation of new officers for the
2016-2018 biennium
Since Maureen M, our president, couldn't attend the meeting, Vicki Newburn installed our new officers. Four were in attendance: President--Sara E, First Vice-President--Kathy M, Parliamentarian--Mary Sue S, and Treasurer--Judy Y. We have such amazing leadership!
Everyone went through the receiving line and congratulated our newly installed officers,
both elected and appointed.
both elected and appointed.
Sara presented each new officer with a red rose.
Our last activity of the day was the Delta Kappa Gamma Birthday and Founders Day game, thanks to Janice R. We had a wonderful time, finding the answers to the questions she had prepared. We also learned a lot about our organization and its history.
Sandra J waves a flag so Janice will call on her for an answer. There was a good deal of friendly competition between the tables, but the "Delta" table brought home the victory.
After thanking Vicki for her presence and assistance, Sara gave her a gift of a beautiful hanging basket.
Then it was time to have lunch!
Thanks to JJ's for a delicious meal.
