Alpha Zeta gathers at one of our favorite locations---
The Family Bakery
in Gate City.
Lois Q and Carmen S greeted everyone at the door with warm smiles.
President Sara E called the meeting to order. It was exciting to have so many members in attendance!
We all enjoyed hearing Sue C's "Thought for the Day." She told wonderful stories and sang an original song about the importance of being grateful for our blessings.
One special guest---our Marion Stafford scholarship winner!! We were so happy to welcome Olivia B. to our meeting and to participate in the CTE Panel.
Today's program: a Career and Technical Education Panel
This panel eagerly and effectively answered questions about the new emphasis on students becoming ready for the workforce as they leave public school. Issues included the teaching of "Soft Skills" (interviewing for a job, etiquette, and ethics, for example) and combating chronic absenteeism. The panel emphasized the relationship between workforce readiness and attracting new businesses to SW Virginia.
On to the business meeting...
Our super treasurer, Judy Y, reported on the state of our finances. As usual, she's on top of everything!
Maureen M, our representative on Coordinating Council, asked everyone to mark April 28 on their calendars. That's when the Iota State Leadership Seminar will be held at UVA Wise. Let her know if you'd like to present a workshop.
Kathy M encouraged everyone to think of a worthy young woman, a future educator, to nominate for the Marion Stafford scholarship. The link to the scholarship forms are on this site--click on HELPFUL LINKS to find the download button.
After the Collect, we enjoyed a delicious lunch and much-loved camaraderie. What an amazing group of women!!! Here are some of our friends enjoying time together...
The Christmas Social at Linda B's house!!
Be there at 11:00 am on December 2,
with a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.
Thanks to Linda for hosting Alpha Zeta. What a special treat!
Happy Thanksgiving!!
