November, 2018--Alpha Zeta meets
at Fern Valley Farm in Bristol, VA.
What fun we had at Fern Valley Farm! We took our annual group photo with the beautiful fall trees as our background.
Many thanks to our hostesses, Stamps S and Linda B! They collected lunch money, but also helped collect signatures for website compliance!
Sara E presented our "Thought for the Day." She read about a master teacher who encouraged her students to become better readers. Ultimately, at her funeral, one of her most challenging students demonstrated his gratitude for the efforts of that teacher on his behalf.
Treasurer, Judy Y, presented the state of our finances. We appreciate your hard work!
We were so happy that our 2018-2019 Marion Stafford Scholarship recipient, Madison M, came to Fern Valley Farm! It was delightful to meet this future educator. She was accompanied by her mother, Missy. We are proud of you, Madison, and look forward to welcoming you as a member one day.
ROCK Recognition: Honoring an outstanding member of Alpha Zeta who inspires and encourages others.
Stamps S spoke eloquently about the life, career, and many talents of one of our impressive sisters, Sara E.
President, Kathy M, presented Sara with a rock, painted with a flower and the word, "INSPIRE."
Sara is an inspiration to her family, her students, her colleagues, and--of course--her DKG sisters.
Breakout activity: Build IT.
Alpha Zeta learns about working together, engineering, architecture, and gravity....using toothpicks and marshmallows!
New Business: Committee Breakout Session
Thank you to Fern Valley Farm, and our hosts,
Larry and Lynn Bauer.
This Atlanta girl and Wisconsin boy met in California.
They traveled the world and chose to settle in Southwest Virginia. Lucky us!
Larry told us that the couple bought and developed this farmland with children in mind. Their outreach and mission is to help children grow up with a love and appreciation for the land and the animals that provide our nourishment.
