We always enjoy chatting before the business meeting starts!
Carmen S shared the "Thought for the Day," which was a poem by William De Witt Hyde called "Grammar" found on the blog entitled Shumpty Speaks dated 3 December 2013.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Live in the active voice, rather than passive.
Think more about what you happen than what is happening to you.
Live in the indicative mood, rather than in the subjunctive.
Be concerned with things as they are, rather than as they might be
Live in the present tense, facing the duty at hand
without regret for the past or worry over the future.
Live in the singular number, caring more for the approval of your own conscience
than for the applause of the crowd.

Our special guest was Lindsay G, a Media Specialist with Kingsport City Schools, and the daughter of our president, Kathy M.
Lindsay explained how much the role of a Media Specialist has changed over the years. Now, she teaches elementary students--even Kindergartners!--to program and code. Her tools are robots and computers, but the kids think they're playing games. In fact, they're learning valuable computing skills that will be useful throughout their lives.
We Alpha Zeta sisters really enjoyed trying out the various gadgets
and learning how students manipulate them through coding.

Sara E and Kathy M talked to us about Fall Board, which was held in September.
- January 29, 2019 is Lobby Day, and Kathy M would love for several of us to come to Richmond and lobby for education.
- April 26-28, 2019 will be the Spring Convention in Charlottesville. Each coordinating council should send six hostesses for Saturday's luncheon. If you're interested, please talk to Kathy M.
- At that convention, there will be a vote on whether to sell Headquarters, which is in need of lots of repair, but could sell for a tidy sum.
Lois Q received a certificate for her 25 years of membership in Delta Kappa Gamma. Congratulations, Lois!! We have been so blessed to have you in our chapter. Your leadership, delightful personality, and creativity have made a huge impact on Alpha Zeta.
This website recently received the Seal of Compliance from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, International. In order to remain compliant, all sisters were asked to sign the Website Release Form. If you didn't get the chance to fill out a form in October, there will be forms available at all meetings until everyone has been approached for a signature.
