The members of Alpha Zeta were all so happy to gather on this rather warm February morning! Look at the happy faces as friends who hadn't seen one another since November greeted one another!
VP Melissa C was on the job early, taking money and checking attendance!
Everyone was just being seated, when they were asked to get up for our annual group photo. Didn't it turn out well?
Finally, Cynthia B--forever hereafter known as "Her Serene Highness", a moniker given by Carol P--was able to corral the group and call the meeting to order.
Welcome to our two guests--(L-R) Kelly H and Mary Beth V (with Linda S)
We are thrilled that you came and hope you'll join our happy group!

Thought for the Day:
Peggy L presented the "Thought for the Day." She shared a story she had read about a pencil maker who told each pencil he made about how that pencil could be the best pencil it could be.
It would be held in a hand, sharpened from time to time, be able to correct mistakes, make its mark, and know that its importance is on the inside. Peggy talked about how that parable could apply to humans, and make them the best people possible. Great job, Peg!! |
Our Program: The Isaiah 117 House
Speaker, Savannah Harrison, spoke eloquently and passionately about this program that provides a clean, comforting place where children can stay until a foster family welcomes them. She described how cold and impersonal the "removal day" can be for many kids, and how the Isaiah 117 House has changed that. The white house with the red door, soon to be under construction in Washington County, VA, will be a symbol of compassion and comfort.
The house provides new clothing, new toys, warm meals, comfortable beds--everything a child could need in the short term. Plus, when the placement with a foster family occurs, the child leaves the Isaiah 117 house with enough new clothes to last a week.
Our project for this meeting was to donate new (with tags) pajamas and underwear for children.
Why all new clothes? Savannah told us that many foster children have never had anything new. At the Isaiah 117 House, they can go "shopping" and pick out all new clothing. The mission of Isaiah 117 House is threefold:

Old and New Business:
Carol P, chair of the Nominations Committee, presented our slate of officers for the 2024-26 biennium.
All of the officers from the current biennium have agreed to stay in their offices. Only the president, Cynthia B, who is in her second consecutive term as president, has asked to step down. In the 2024-25 biennium, we'll have co-presidents, Gail G and Leigh R. Thanks to all of the officers for happily agreeing to serve! |
