Today is a special National Day of Service and Remembrance. Alpha Zeta's meeting reflected the solemnity of the occasion.

President Cynthia B. called the meeting to order. She had to scramble to get this meeting together after our planned location closed. Here are the ten gift bags for new teachers; Alpha Zeta distributes these each fall to new women teachers in our area schools.
Maureen M. provided the "Thought for the Day." She told the story of Welles Crowther, a young volunteer firefighter who saved many people from upper floors in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Sporting a red bandanna, Mr. Crowther guided several groups of people through the smoke to stairways, helping them escape death before succumbing, himself, when the tower collapsed.
Business:
The members discussed the terrible flooding, mudslides, and devastation that affected Hurley, VA on September 1. They voted to send a donation to the Delta Kappa Gamma chapter that serves Hurley. That chapter, Alpha Xi, will determine the best application of the funds they will receive from Alpha Zeta.
Their chapter president, Melody O., wrote, "Thank you so much for looking out and caring for our chapter. I will be on the look out and be talking with my members about ways to utilize the funds for relief efforts. "
On a happy note:
We were so very happy to welcome our 2021-22 Marion B. Stafford Scholarship recipient, Kari W. Kari is a senior at Emory & Henry College, and is student teaching in Special Education. Thanks for coming, Kari!
Time for lunch! Many, many thanks to Carol P. and Teresa H. for providing food for today's meeting. This group demonstrated its flexibility today. That's a quality found in excellent teachers, of course!
Thanks to Cynthia B. and Kathy M. for the photos of the September meeting.
