The Alpha Zeta and Chi chapters of Iota State held a joint meeting at this beautiful church in Marion, VA, the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church.
Our special guest was Vickie Newburn, the president of Iota State. Vickie is always welcome and fits in beautifully!
Kay W. gave the Thought for the Day. She talked about planting the right seeds in one's garden to enjoy an abundant harvest. She mentioned the importance of patience and love, reminding us that we reap what we sow.
The Highlight of the Day--Mountain Music, featuring the
Grayson County High School String Band
The director and instructor for the string band is Eddie Bond, an excellent musician, teacher--of both music and precision machine, and a fine storyteller. He had our group laughing over his musical anecdotes!
This band with its professional sound played with no sheet music. They played tunes from such songwriters as the Skillet Lickers, Wayne Henderson, AP Carter, Albert Hash, and Ralph Stanley. We DKG sisters were amazed and delighted with the skills of these young people. What dedication!
It's lunchtime!
Maureen M. offered the blessing.
There was a genuine effort for members of Alpha Zeta and members of Chi to mingle and get to know one another. What a terrific group of women!
Honoring our own....a tradition at joint meetings
Traditionally, Chi and Alpha Zeta choose a member to honor for her service and dedication to her chapter and Delta Kappa Gamma. At this meeting, unfortunately, the Chi honorees were unable to attend. They will be honored at the May meeting.
Kathy M, president of Alpha Zeta, announced two honorees for this year. For each sister, a mini biography was read, a certificate was presented, and our dear president wrote creative lyrics for the group to sing. What fun!
