Our February meeting was held at the beautiful Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church in Bristol, VA. Thanks for accomodating us! And special thanks to Carol P and Melissa C for making all the arrangements and doing the decorations!
February 4, 2023--Alpha Zeta was happy to get together again after the holidays. You can see the joy on everyone's faces!
Teresa H is enjoying the delicious coffee, doughnuts, and juice provided by our hostesses. Thanks so much!
President Cynthia (Yay! She's back!) finally corralled us all into the meeting space.
Sandy F. talked to the group about the Raines Foundation. Alpha Zeta will be participating in a panel discussion with new women educators and some undergrads who are studying to become educators about why education is still a good career choice. The B.G. Raines Education Forum (free of charge) will be at the Higher Ed center in Abingdon on Wednesday, March 22. The panel discussion will begin at 4:00pm. Sandy talked about several other ways in which Alpha Zeta can support new teachers. We were excited to get started talking about ideas. |
Beegie R. received her 30-year certificate from Delta Kappa Gamma. She has been a member since 1987--36 years! She is a person who brings joy to everyone she meets. Congrats, Beegie!
Susie M. gave us an update on our dear Shirley S. who was greatly missed. Additionally, the group decided to send donations in memory of the husbands of two of our longtime, beloved members, Heidi M and Mary Sue S.
Our program: Bethany Gillespie from United Way. She told us about the Handle with Care program in place in Washington County Schools. School children are experiencing more trauma since the pandemic began. This program addresses their needs.
Before we adjourned and had lunch, Carol P and Melissa C shared an idea they had gotten from a one-person play at the Barter Theatre. They had us write one brilliant thing about life on a post-it note and post it on a board. The idea of accentuating the positive was a theme at today's meeting!

LUNCH was catered by our dear friends at Ladybug Café and Cakery in Bristol, VA. It's always so delicious!
Don't miss our next meeting at Brushstrokes and More in Kingsport, TN. The meeting (really a "Paint and Chat" gathering) will be on March 4 from 1-3 pm. Alpha Zeta will provide snacks and water. You will need to bring $5 (studio fee) and more money for the item you choose to paint. We'll have a blast!
