Hostesses, Sandra J and Heidi M, were in the Derby spirit with their lovely hats.
There was so much joy and mirth in the air as the sisters began to arrive! Could it have been the hats?
Our always effervescent president, Kathy M, presided over this fun-filled meeting.
Thought for the Day--Susie M...
Sisters listen as Susie shares a reading about the forgotten power of silence. She pointed out that "silent" and "listen" have the same letters. She also reminded us that we should be respectful of others, even those with whom we disagree--words of wisdom for this age! Thanks, Susie.
Kathy's Happy Hat Activity / Pennies for Africa...
President Kathy had each sister hold a large hat, and while donating to the "Pennies for Africa" project, she should talk about something she's grateful for this morning. It was a very uplifting activity. Some spoke of "Gratitude Journals", others of our chosen profession, some of health and family, and many spoke of friendships--especially those found in Alpha Zeta.
Honoring our own...
Our sister, Linda S, has been a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society for FIFTY years! How amazing, and what a significant milestone for our dear Alpha Zeta member. We are honored to have such a delightful member in our chapter and thank her for her many contributions to education and to DKG. You rock, Linda!!
Honored for their contributions to Alpha Zeta at the April Joint Meeting with Chi chapter, were Sara E (former president) and Judi L (webmaster). What a huge honor. Sara and Judi both feel humbled to have been chosen and consider being associated with such excellent women educators to be a privilege.

Business Meeting...
Our always fiscally accurate treasurer, Judy Y, gives her report. Then, Carol S reads our correspondence--including a note from Iota State president, Vickie Newburn!
Reports from the Iota State Convention...
Maureen and Cindy both reported the Convention news to us.
They had a wonderful time and learned a lot about DKG!

Cindy talked about our own Teresa H (in red), who sang at the convention. Linda S contributed a beautiful painting to the Iota State Fine Arts exhibition. We have so much talent in this group; how proud we are of you two!!
Scholarships...
Carol P always represents Alpha Zeta in presenting the VA Scholars in Education award at Emory & Henry College's awards banquet. This year's recipient is Allison H, an MA-Ed student who will pursue a career in educating students in Pre-K through 6th grade. Congratulations, Allison!
Janice T, head of our Scholarship committee, presented the committee's choice for the Marion Stafford Scholarship. This year's recipient will be Emma C, the daughter of two educators. We congratulate you, Emma, and hope to have you come to a meeting in the fall.
