May 4, 2024---Happy Birthday, DKG!!!
Welcome to our newest member, Mary Beth V!
----
And thanks to Gate City UMC (and our coordinator, Mary Cla., for securing Gate City UMC's fellowship hall for our meeting. The park wouldn't have been fun with all the rain.
This looks like the happy face of our outgoing president of FOUR years--Cynthia B! Oh, my, how we'll miss your leadership and quick thinking. You often had to find last-minute replacement venues when our designated meeting place was unavailable. Worst of all, you had to figure out how to make Alpha Zeta's meetings interesting, relevant, and possible during COVID! We salute you, Cynthia!!!
Our hostesses coordinated the EIGHT scholarship baskets members donated. These sisters were a most welcoming, loving sight as we entered the fellowship hall.
Thought for the Day: Mary Cla. shared famous quotes--some poignant, some funny, and all appropriate for a group of educators.
Old Business:
Four of us reported on the Virginia State Organization's Regional Leadership Conference held at UVA-Wise in April. There were SEVEN Alpha Zeta sisters there!
Cindy accepts the Honor Gold Key Chapter Award. (Right) A name tag showing DKG's slogan, "Tell your DKG Story!"
Carol P and Gail G (pictured below) along with Judi L and Leigh R spoke about what they learned at the conference. There were sessions on using Canva, interpreting the data in the Healthy Chapters survey, diversity in your chapter, how to gain new members and keep the current ones, etc.
And Leigh R won a leadership pack in a drawing...PERFECT for our new co-president!!
New Business
Healthy Chapters---Cynthia B showed us the packet of materials she received and talked a bit about what it will tell us about Alpha Zeta. Kudos to Alpha Zeta which had 50% participation in the survey!!!
Induction of our New Member, Mary Beth V!
Installation of New Officers
Passing the gavel: Our newly installed co-presidents, Leigh R and Gail G take charge.
Leigh R and Gail G present outgoing president, Cynthia B, with an appreciation gift--a book that commemorates her four years as our president.
Scholarship Raffle: We donate items, then pay for chances to win a basket. All proceeds go to help pay for the $1,000 scholarship Alpha Zeta awards each year to a young woman in college or graduate school who lives in our geographic area and plans to be an educator. This year our recipient is Jennings W, a student at Emory & Henry College.
With EIGHT baskets, many of us were able to come away with goodies!!
